Trauma Recovery Program
Surviving physical or situational trauma may not mean that a person has survived emotionally. Experiencing trauma of any kind can have such a severe effect on an individual that drug addiction and alcohol abuse may develop. Many people experiencing Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) also have a dual diagnosis of addiction combined with depression or other psychological symptoms.
The Recovery Center understands that in order to completely survive a traumatic event, both symptom management and direct focus on the event are crucial. The treatment must be unique to the individual, and dynamic enough to accommodate the ebb and flow of the recovery process.
Primary group therapy in our Trauma Recovery Program is provided five days a week. These are small groups, to assure that comprehensive attention can be given to each patient, and at the same time maximize the importance of community support.
Therapeutic interventions also include individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation and psycho-pharmacological care. Addiction issues are addressed concurrently with the underlying symptoms caused by physical, emotional or situational trauma.
Tina Saunders, a licensed mental health counselor and certified addictions professional, facilitates the client's care in this program. Skilled in somatic experiencing, emotional regulation, grounding, distress tolerance, and relaxation technique, Tina understands that the quality of a therapeutic relationship is as important as the treatment methods utilized.
Coordination of care between the trauma recovery program team and the psychiatric clinical team ensures that clients remain stable throughout their processing of past experiences. Emphasis is placed on providing an environment of safety and security, allowing clients to feel respected and understood. Families are included through education and therapy.
The Recovery Place teaches clients to access internal resources and strengths, which provides a sense of empowerment and promotes autonomous living. The Recovery Place Trauma Treatment Program offers a complete and comprehensive therapeutic experience designed to help the victim grow into a survivor.
